LONG WEEKEND LONDON!
Friday October 23
07.51 (am) Backpack is almost ready to go
08.33 (am) Parked bike at the trainstation
08.41 (am) Intercity to Rotterdam
Was supposed to catch Intercity to Brussels there but when I arrived in Rotterdam at 11.27 there was an announcement that the train wasn't going (no explanation) and they adviced to take the slow train to bordertown Roosendaal. It left at 11.33, I managed to get to the platform just in time. That was only the start of a nerve wrecking journey; I had an assigned seat for the Eurostar from Brussels to London, that would leave at 14.59. Checking in and bordercontrol takes about 30 to 60 minutes. The intercity would have gotten me there with about an hour to spare. Now I had to get another slow connection from Roosendaal to Antwerp. When I -and loads of other stressed out travelers- got on that train we were told to change trains just across the border for an intercity connection to Brussels. They forgot to add that this train didn't leave for another half an hour. Eeep. Finally arrived in Brussels at 14.32. Had to run and pass not-helpful-at all check-inn staff, but made the Eurostar just in time...
